DESCRIPTION
Microcephaly is a medical condition in which the head circumference smaller than normal because the brain has not developed properly or has stopped growing. Microcephaly appear at birth or may develop in the first few years of life.
It is most commonly caused by a genetic disorder that interferes with the growth abnormalities of the cerebral cortex during the early months of fetal development. It is associated with Down syndrome, chromosomal syndromes, and neurometabolic syndromes. Babies may be born with microcephaly if during pregnancy the mother had a habit of abusing drugs or alcohol, infected with cytomegalovirus, rubella virus, poisoned by certain chemicals.
SYMPTOMS

# Delayed motor functions and speech,
# Facial abnormalities
# Short stature,
# hyperactive
# Seizures,
# Difficulty with coordination and balance
# Neurological abnormalities.
TREATMENT
There is no treatment for microcephaly that can return a child's head to a normal size or shape. Treatment focuses on ways to reduce the impact of disability and related neurological disabilities. Children with microcephaly and developmental delays are usually evaluated by a pediatric neurologist and followed by medical management team
